Dorothy Day, American Catholic social activist, noted: “People say, what is the sense of our small effort. They cannot see that we must lay one brick at a time.”
As a follower of Jesus, that is the heart of why I’m out here in the “blogosphere!”
The reason for this blog, hosted by Mary Elyn Bahlert (I’m a United Methodist minister in Oakland, California), is to provide a forum for folks all over the country to share micro-to-macro ideas to strengthen our communities.
I’d like to start a conversation.
After many hours of reflection, preaching for many years to a diverse inner-city congregation, and from long conversations with others who also long to find ways to help our communities in this time of transition and challenges – I wanted to grow the conversation. Many of us, I know, feel uncertain and unable to bring about change that will help us all.
This blog is part of my spiritual practice… I hope you will be inspired to make simple and profound changes in how you live in your local community. Perhaps you will see it as your spiritual practice, also.
