Find something beautiful…!

Image

Today, in the ‘hood, find something beautiful!  Enjoy!

Our communities will not change unless we change… it’s true!  The person we bring to the community today is the community we are forming.  In that sense, who we bring to the communities in which we live, in which we work, in which we play, and fight, and vote, and whose streets we walk are a reflection of us…

When we approach our communities with a critical eye, of course there will be lots of changes we’d like to see.  And when we approach our communities with an eye for beauty, we’ll begin to transform these places.

Every single one of us is important.  That means you – and it means me.  When we go into our communities with a list of what’s wrong, then our important presence has only made the community look “wrong.”  When we choose to open our eyes – and our hearts! – to the beauty that is already there, we can build on the foundation of what is good and right and beautiful, rather than attempting to build on what we see is wrong.

This is spiritual practice.  It will take some work on all our parts to look at the communities we inhabit with an eye for their beauty.
Let this be your spiritual practice today – find something beautiful in your community.  And cherish it!  Let beauty be the cornerstone of the new community you hope to build…
